Give Your Skin an Awesome Autumn

Summer is over, and your skin most likely needs a little TLC after a season of exposure to the sun, heat, and drying air conditioning. As you transition into fall, you’ll need to transition your skincare regimen as well—so check out our fall skincare tips to help keep your skin feeling soft and smooth all year long!
Fall Skincare

Up the Moisturizer

Autumn is a particularly indecisive season—temperatures can fluctuate drastically from day to day from summer mid-afternoon heat to brisk breezes. The days are much shorter and the air is much drier, and that means your light, summer moisturizer might need a sidekick. For starters, begin putting on a facial serum underneath your current moisturizer to protect your skin from cooler, arid weather. Come winter you’ll need a richer cream, but make the switch slowly to avoid overwhelming your skin.

The eyes are one of the most sensitive areas of the body, and the skin around them is much thinner than anywhere else on your face—come cold weather, they will need the utmost attention. We suggest putting on an additional heavier, eye-specific cream to make sure they’re extra protected.

Don’t Skip the SPF!

As the seasons changes, there are many common misconceptions about sun exposure. Many people assume that fall skincare means they can forget their sunscreen. Think again! You should always wear sunscreen, no matter the season. In fact, because it’s generally cooler, you may be finding yourself outside more often—and the sun can damage your skin no matter what season it is.

To avoiding overloading your skin with too many facial products, we suggest finding a moisturizer or foundation makeup that already contains SPF levels of 15 or higher.

So Fresh and So Clean…Exfoliate!

One of the most important steps to taking care of your skin during the drier months is exfoliation. You won’t need to do it as much as you will in the winter, but it is incredibly important to get rid of dead skin cells regularly. You will need to use a less abrasive exfoliant at least once every two weeks—or visit an expert for a professional exfoliation to see more dramatic improvement. Here at The Swan Center, we often recommend chemical peels to provide deep exfoliation and long-lasting results.

Don’t Forget about Your Limbs!

Last, but certainly not least, take care of the rest of your body! Just because you’re covering up with more layers doesn’t mean your limbs aren’t begging for some attention. Try exfoliating your body at least twice a month with a high quality body scrub and use a daily moisturizer right after your shower when your pores are primed to soak in all the goodness!
