What Happens During a GlowTox Treatment?

Your GlowTox treatment starts with a review of your concerns and treatment goals. 

From there, you’ll see our licensed aesthetician first for your VI peel, which is applied to clean skin in three to four thin layers. More sensitive areas will get a lighter sweep, while the cheeks, forehead and jawline can typically tolerate a more intensive approach. The peel starts working immediately and produces a mild numbing effect across the treated area.

Next, you’ll see your nurse injector for the second half of your treatment. Because the peel has already numbed the skin, most patients find the injection portion of a GlowTox session more comfortable than usual. At The Swan Center, our injectors are trained alongside our board-certified plastic surgeons, giving them a deeper understanding of facial anatomy that informs placement and dosing for balanced, natural-looking results. 

After your injections are complete, you’ll leave the office with the peel still on your skin. The VI Peel is self-neutralizing but should be washed off at home four to six hours after your appointment. When Will I See Results After My GlowTox Appointment?

With a typical Botox treatment, what you see after two weeks is your final result. With GlowTox, results continue to improve as the VI Peel renews and refreshes your skin. Here is what to expect during recovery and when you can expect to see visible changes.

Days 1 to 3

After 24-48 hours, your skin may feel tight and look slightly flushed. This is the peel working as intended. Light flaking typically starts within two or three days. Use your aftercare kit as directed for a comfortable recovery and let treated areas shed naturally.

Not necessarily! While Botox is the most common pairing, you can choose from Botox, Dysport, Xeomin or Daxxify. Your injector will recommend the best option based on your treatment history and goals, or you can continue with whichever neurotoxin you already prefer. The VI Peel component pairs equally well with any of the four.

How often should I get GlowTox?

Most patients align their GlowTox treatments with their existing neurotoxin schedule. Some patients include the VI Peel at every visit, while others add it once or twice a year for a seasonal reset. Your provider can recommend the right frequency based on your skin’s needs and how it responds to treatment. 

How much does GlowTox cost?

Can I get GlowTox before an event?

With the right timing, absolutely. GlowTox involves little to no downtime, but results aren’t visible immediately, and there is some flaking from the peel to consider. Most patients plan their treatment about a week before they want their skin to look its best, which allows enough time for the peeling/flaking to resolve. The neurotoxin will also start taking effect within this timeframe, with full muscle relaxation at two weeks.

Who should not get GlowTox?

GlowTox may not be appropriate if you have a known sensitivity to any of the VI Peel’s ingredients, including phenol, TCA or salicylic acid. Patients with a history of cold sores should also proceed with caution, as chemical peels can trigger an outbreak. Your provider will review your medical history at your consultation and let you know if GlowTox is a good fit for your skin.

Chin liposuction is a minor surgical procedure performed under local anesthesia that removes fat in a single session, with most patients resuming normal activity within about a week.

Neither option is categorically better. The right fit depends on how much submental fullness you have, your results timeline and how you feel about surgery. What to Expect During Your Kybella Treatment

Kybella treatments are performed at our beautiful med spa in Alpharetta, GA. Each session takes about 20 minutes, with additional time for numbing, if needed. 

Before beginning, your provider will carefully mark the treatment area, then administer a series of small injections into the fat beneath the chin. You may feel a burning sensation as the deoxycholic acid begins breaking down fat cells, but this is temporary and should subside shortly after your last injection. An ice pack will be applied to improve your comfort and help control swelling, although this is an expected side effect that indicates the medication is actively working to break down fat cells. 

A tip from our team for hands-free cooling: bring a chin strap or headband to your appointment to hold the ice pack comfortably in place. Each subsequent session tends to produce less swelling, since fewer fat cells remain to be treated. 

How Soon Will I See Results After Kybella?

Because the process is biological rather than mechanical, Kybella results develop gradually. Most patients start seeing visible improvement after their second session, with full results appearing three to six months after their final treatment. Two to four sessions are typically needed for the best outcome, but this can vary depending on your anatomy and goals. 

Once you achieve your desired results, the improvements in your facial profile are considered permanent as long as you maintain a stable weight. Treated fat cells are destroyed and don’t come back, but the adjacent areas can still be affected by significant weight gain.

FAQs

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients need two to four sessions, spaced at least one month apart. Visible improvements in mild to moderate submental fullness typically start appearing after two treatments, while more significant fullness beneath the chin may require additional sessions. 

Is Kybella painful?

Discomfort during the injection itself is manageable for most patients and typically described as a temporary burning or stinging sensation. It tends to resolve quickly after your last injection and responds well to icing. Post-treatment swelling may cause mild discomfort or firmness beneath the chin, but this peaks within 24-48 hours and can also be managed with ice packs. 

Where can Kybella be used?

Kybella is FDA-approved to treat submental fat in the area underneath the chin. While that is its only approved use, some providers use Kybella off-label to target small pockets of stubborn fat in other areas of the body, such as bra bulges near the armpits or fatty deposits above the knees. However, in these cases, liposuction is typically the more economical choice.

Will I need maintenance treatments?

You shouldn’t need maintenance treatments. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good, giving you lasting results as long as you maintain a stable weight. That said, Kybella doesn’t eliminate all fat cells beneath the chin. If your weight does fluctuate significantly after treatment, the remaining fat cells can still expand, affecting your outcome. 

Does Kybella tighten loose skin?

No. Kybella targets fat, not skin laxity. Patients with notable looseness or sagging in the chin, neck or jawline may be better served by a different treatment. Your provider will assess skin quality at your consultation to recommend the most effective approach. 

How long does it take to see results?

Swelling from treatment can temporarily make the area appear fuller before it begins to look slimmer. Most patients notice meaningful definition starting to emerge several weeks after a session. Full results develop gradually over several months following your last treatment.

The Biggest Botox Myths & Questions Men Ask

The questions below are real searches, real questions and real things men bring into consultations at The Swan Center. If you’ve wondered about any of them yourself, you’re in good company.

“Isn’t Botox just for women?”

No, Botox is not just for women. And it never has been. Despite early marketing being aimed almost exclusively at women, the actual patient population tells a different story. 

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s (ISAPS) annual survey, over 7.8 million Botox treatments were performed in 2024, and 1.2 million of those were performed on men. Botox is easily the single most popular nonsurgical treatment among male patients globally, and the growing trend has even earned it a cheeky nickname: Brotox.  

“Every year, more men are investing in their appearance,” says Jordan Dupree, MSN, APRN, AGPCNP-C, nurse injector at The Swan Center. “We’re treating men from all over Atlanta who want to smooth away frown lines, refresh their look and just feel more confident in how they present themselves.” 

The men who get Botox aren’t a niche demographic, either. They’re professionals in competitive fields. They’re remote workers with high-resolution cameras and too many Zoom meetings that could’ve been emails. They’re fathers and husbands who have seen their partner’s results and want to know if Botox will work for them, too. 

Mohsin Rupani, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, one of our nurse injectors and an instructor at Georgia’s Injectable Academy®, gets Botox himself every three to four months. He approaches it the same way he does the rest of his health routine: consistently, and without overthinking it. “It’s becoming very normal,” he says. “ It’s just another way men take care of themselves.” 

“Will Botox freeze my face?”

Men who ask this question aren’t worried about aesthetics in the abstract. The frozen face they’re picturing is very specific: someone whose forehead doesn’t move and whose eyebrows are stuck in a too-high position. That look is real, and you’ve probably seen it before. Fortunately, it’s not inevitable. 

An unnatural, frozen look comes from too much product in the wrong places. Botox works by relaxing muscle activity, but a well-executed treatment doesn’t eliminate it entirely. The goal is to selectively target the muscles responsible for crow’s feet, frown lines and other dynamic wrinkles while leaving enough movement for natural facial expressions. For most men, that means a smoother forehead and fewer creases around the eyes.

“Will I look like someone else?”

Like a lot of new patients, men are concerned about aesthetic treatments making them unrecognizable. They don’t want to lose the essence of who they are, which is completely reasonable. At The Swan Center, a face that still feels familiar when you look in the mirror is our number one goal. Our mantra is natural, balanced and refreshed, not overdone. 

For men, an unrecognizable outcome can often be traced back to brow position. Men’s brows are typically lower and broader than women’s, and an injection pattern that ignores this will always produce an unnatural result. “I teach this at the Injectable Academy because it’s where new injectors make the most mistakes,” says Mohsin. “A female injection map on a male face is the wrong starting point.”

“What if I just want a little Botox?”

A conservative, lower-dose approach for a first appointment isn’t the wrong instinct, but it needs to account for how male anatomy actually works, or it won’t deliver what you’re hoping for.

Getting just a little Botox is often called “Preventive Botox,” and it means using fewer units across a broader area to create more subtle results. The practical problem for men is that they tend to metabolize the neurotoxin sooner than women, and stronger muscles break it down faster still. A dose calibrated for subtlety on a male face often disappears within weeks, before you’ve had a chance to form an opinion on whether the result was worth it.

A more useful approach is starting with the right amount of product while being careful about which areas you treat. Our injectors start conservatively and invite new patients back at two weeks to review the outcome and make any adjustments. You end up with an accurate picture of what Botox actually does for your face rather than a result too light to evaluate.

“Once I start, do I have to keep getting Botox forever?”

No. Botox doesn’t create a physiological dependency, and stopping treatment at any point allows muscle activity to return to normal. That said, there is an argument for keeping up with treatment: muscles that are regularly relaxed not only soften existing lines and wrinkles but prevent new ones from forming in the first place. 

“I always tell my patients to think of it this way… When you come in for regular treatments, you’re actually getting ahead of aging,” explains nurse injector Victoria Armistead, RN, BSN. “Relaxed expressions that don’t crease the skin thousands of times a day add up.” 

Most men who keep up with Botox treatments do so because the results speak for themselves, and appointments are easy to fit into a busy schedule. Men who stop return to baseline over time. Neither choice creates a problem down the road, but the ones who stay consistent tend to appreciate how the benefits compound.

“Why does my forehead look weird on day 4?”

This is something that catches new patients off guard. But it does happen, and there’s a real reason why: Botox doesn’t take effect all at once across a treatment area.

Our faces are not perfectly symmetrical, and different muscles can be stronger or weaker than others. In the first three to five days, your results might look uneven as the neurotoxin starts actively relaxing the treated muscles at varying rates. Things tend to balance out after 14 days, which is when you can expect the final outcome to be visible. 

If your face still looks asymmetrical after two weeks, that’s the appropriate time to contact your injector for a touch-up. For first-timers, this is actually a common experience. It’s normal to need minor tweaks as you and your provider learn how your facial muscles respond to treatment.

What Your Consultation at The Swan Center Looks Like

Your first appointment starts with a conversation. You’ll sit down with your provider, who will ask about your goals, evaluate your facial anatomy and walk you through what happens during treatment. If you’re ready to move forward at this point, we can administer Botox injections the same day, but there’s no pressure to decide on the spot. A lot of men come in with questions, leave with answers, and book when they’re ready.

The treatment process itself is fairly straightforward and only takes about 15 minutes. Your injector will ask you to make a series of facial expressions, like frowning and raising your eyebrows, to analyze your muscle activity and map out a treatment plan. They’ll then determine the number of units needed and mark the injection points.  

Each injection feels like a small pinch and lasts just a few seconds. Afterward, you can go back to work and resume your daily routine, but we do recommend skipping alcohol, sun exposure and strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours for the best results. 

“Most men are surprised by how quick it is,” says Mohsin. “They walk out thinking, ‘That was it?’ The consultation takes longer than the treatment.”

Let’s Start With the Basics: How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Most dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar molecule the body produces to retain moisture, keeping the skin firm and supple. As HA levels decline with age, the skin loses some of its natural structure, making lines, folds and creases more apparent. 

Dermal fillers work by replacing what the body has lost to improve skin quality, enhance facial contours and restore youthful fullness. They introduce a cross-linked, stabilized form of HA into targeted areas, instantly replenishing volume for results that are visible right away. 

HA fillers are one of the most performed cosmetic treatments in the world, and the range of products and techniques has expanded considerably over the past decade. Facial Lines and Volume Loss Are Different Concerns

The expanding menu of options can make it easy to focus on the syringe instead of the strategy. 

Fine lines develop closer to the skin’s surface, while volume loss happens deeper, in the structural layers beneath it. Because these concerns originate at different depths, the products and techniques used to address them differ accordingly.

How Do Fillers Treat Static Lines?

Static lines remain visible even when the face is at rest. Unlike expression lines, which appear when the facial muscles contract, static lines become etched into the skin itself, shaped by collagen depletion, sun exposure, a loss of elasticity and years of repeated movement that turn temporary wrinkles into permanent creases.

Because static lines are shallower and more superficial than deeper facial folds, treating them calls for a lighter touch to ensure natural-looking results.

Deeper facial folds develop for a different reason than static lines. As collagen levels decrease and the underlying structure of the face changes, certain areas can begin to sag or look less defined. Facial folds may be what draws your attention, but the treatment plan often begins by looking at the surrounding features.

This is especially true with deeper folds around the midface and mouth, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. While most injectors will treat the fold directly, experienced ones also add volume in nearby areas to provide support and improve the way the tissue sits overall. 

For concerns like hollow temples, flattened cheeks or softening along the jawline, the strategy is usually less about softening a single crease and more about restoring contour, structure or balance.

Can Fillers Treat Expression Lines?

Sometimes, but they aren’t a first-line treatment. 

Expression lines appear when you smile, squint, frown or raise your eyebrows. Because these lines are caused by repeated facial movements, they are treated first with neurotoxins like BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin® or Daxxify®, which temporarily relax the underlying muscles.

Fillers play a role when expression lines become visible at rest or when volume loss is making them more noticeable. What Is the “Forever 35 Facelift?”

The “Forever 35 Facelift” isn’t a trademarked surgical procedure. Instead, it describes a particular aesthetic outcome: one that’s subtle, natural-looking, and typically achieved through a facelift performed in the earlier stages of facial aging.

What Does a Facelift Do That Fillers Can’t?

For the right patient, injectables and other nonsurgical treatments remain an excellent option, but they do have their limits. 

“Injectables can restore volume and contour the face,” explains Dr. Dean Fardo, our facial rejuvenation expert, “but they can’t lift deeper tissues that have descended with age.” When early jowling appears or the neck starts to lose definition, adding more volume may not solve the underlying problem. “In some cases, it can actually have the opposite effect,” he says.

A facelift addresses the structural changes happening beneath the surface of the skin to address signs of aging caused by tissue descent, fat pad loss, bone resorption and weakening of the deeper facial ligaments. When patients notice concerns like sagging cheeks and jowls, a facelift treats the source of the change rather than trying to camouflage it with volume.  

That doesn’t mean that fillers and nonsurgical treatments are not worth considering. The key is knowing when the concern is volume loss, when it’s tissue descent, and when surgery (or a combination approach) may be the more natural-looking solution.

Why Are Patients Getting Facelifts Earlier?

Part of the reason is cultural. 

We live in an era of Zoom meetings, selfies and 4k everything, so we’re paying more attention to our own faces than ever before. And the changes many of us are noticing, we’re less willing to accept.

What Is Ozempic®?

Ozempic is a brand-name form of semaglutide, delivered with a patented injection pen. The FDA approved it in December 2017 to treat type 2 diabetes, primarily to improve blood sugar control. Weight loss emerged as a meaningful secondary effect during clinical trials, but the approved indication has always been diabetes management.

Because semaglutide can support weight loss, some providers prescribe Ozempic off-label for that purpose. But the formulation and dosing were built around a different therapeutic goal, which is worth understanding when you’re comparing programs.

What Is Wegovy®, and How Does It Differ?

Wegovy is also semaglutide, also from Novo Nordisk, and FDA-approved specifically for weight management. It was approved in 2021 for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure or elevated cholesterol.

The primary difference between Wegovy and Ozempic is the dosage. Wegovy reaches a recommended maintenance dose of 2.4 mg per week, higher than what Ozempic typically uses in diabetes treatment. So while the active ingredient is the same, the FDA-approved indication, dosing structure and clinical context are what differ. 

What About Tirzepatide? 

Tirzepatide is another injectable medication used in medical weight loss treatment. Unlike semaglutide, which targets GLP-1 receptors alone, tirzepatide works on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors involved in appetite regulation and blood sugar control. Brand-name versions include Mounjaro® for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound® for weight management.

So Why Do People Say “Ozempic” When They’re Taking Semaglutide for Weight Loss?

Ozempic became cultural shorthand for GLP-1-based weight loss before most people had heard of Wegovy. Can They Be Combined?
