What is BBL light therapy?
BBL, or Broadband Light Therapy, uses intense pulses of light (IPL) to reduce skin blemishes and help improve firmness and texture. It works in a similar fashion to a laser, but uses a different range of wavelengths. Instead of removing layers of skin, BBL sends light energy through your skin. This energy helps your skin in two ways:
Absorbs pigmentation irregularities to restore a more balanced, even skin tone
Heats the skin’s deeper layers to stimulate collagen production for firmer, more youthful skin
Because it’s noninvasive and leaves skin fully intact, Broadband Light Therapy requires little to no downtime and is safe for most skin types, even darker skin.

One thing we love about Broadband Light Therapy is that it is gentle and safe for almost every skin type. Because we can adjust the heat as well as the specific light wavelength, we can treat darker complexions with minimal risk of pigmentation-related side effects commonly associated with lasers.
What to expect with BBL treatments in Atlanta
Broadband Light Therapy is a quick, 30 to 45 minute treatment that involves little to no discomfort. We’ll first apply a cooling gel to your skin, and then use the handheld BBL device to deliver quick pulses of light to the targeted area. You will feel a sensation similar to a small rubber band snapping lightly against the skin, and see flashes of light, which are not harmful to your eyes.
Immediately following treatment, your skin may appear a little darker or bronzed—this is temporary. You can go right back to your normal activities; however, you’ll need to keep the treated area protected from sun exposure with broad spectrum SPF. Over a week or so following treatment, you may notice the damaged skin sloughs off, revealing your healthier, smoother skin beneath.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of BBL treatments needed to achieve optimal results varies depending on a few factors: your skin type, your treatment goals, and the severity and location of your skin concerns. Typically, lighter skinned patients will need fewer treatments to achieve their desired results than those with darker skin (this is due to using a less intense setting to ensure safe treatment on dark skin). On average, patients are happy with their results after 3 to 5 treatments, spaced about 3 weeks apart.
When will I see results?
Patients typically see results with BBL about 2 weeks following each treatment, depending on their goals. Results get better and better with follow-up treatments.
