Male Breast Reduction: Atlanta Patient Results
Breast Reduction for Men
Male breast reduction surgery is an effective option. The surgery takes around an hour to an hour and a half to complete and is generally an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia, though local anesthesia, in addition to monitored sedation, is not uncommon.
Though similar to female breast reduction in many ways, there is less concern for maintaining full sensation in the nipple. For this reason, men are left with less obvious scarring following a procedure. As the excess tissue is removed, liposuction and fat contouring are sometimes used to maintain a smooth structural appearance and to maintain symmetry. The incision for liposuction is nearly undetectable because it is located near the armpit or on the rim of the areola.
Recovery and Results
A small dressing or adhesive glue is placed over the incision or incisions. Sometimes, a compression vest is used to keep these garments in place. The surgical vest if worn helps reduce the amount of swelling and helps your skin contract back after surgery. You will be prescribed pain medication to manage any discomfort. More than likely, you will have slight bruising but it will fade over a period of several days to few weeks and most patients should be able to return to non strenuous work within 5-7 days.
A condition often related to this surgery is gynecomastia. Read more on gynecomastia here.
